It is with immense pleasure and satisfaction that I have learnt that the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), the UAE’s government development aid entity, has allocated Dh64.2 million ($17.4m) towards two renewable energy projects in Seychelles.
Under the first agreement, an allocation of $8.5m will go towards a solar farm of MW capacity, which will be developed by Masdar on the island of Romainville, while the second agreement involves a $9m investment for the installation of a 33kV power grid South Mahé.
This project follows the wind turbine project which was gifted to us by abhudhabi at a cost of $27m.
Both projects will generate about 15M KwH of clean energy per year.
These projects, as others financed by Abu Dhabi, are focused on strategic sectors that promote sustainable economic development in Seychelles. It is to be noted that over the years Abu Dhabi has financed various development projects in Seychelles, worth millions of dollars .
Abu Dhabi has proved to be a steadfast and reliable partner of Seychelles, and I am proud to have been part of the development of the friendship and cooperation between the UAE and our country. The results are tangible and have an impact on the lives of every Seychellois. We are grateful for their generosity.
Consequently, respect and gratitude are due to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed and to the Abhudhabi Government for all that they have done for us in furthering our economic and social development.
